Running Qualitative Research in China with Indeemo
Indeemo has been used extensively to support research in China.
With consideration to China’s PIPL, we have compiled our learnings to help you on your research journey.
PIPL
China’s Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) regulates how personal data from Chinese residents can be collected, stored, and transferred abroad. If you’re conducting qualitative research with Chinese respondents and using Indeemo, you need to do the following:
Ensure that respondents are aware that their data will be stored in the EU and that they consent to this transfer.
Only ask respondents to share what is relevant to your research study.
An SCC (standard contractual clause) is required from the Cyberspace Administration of China.
You (our customer) are the data controller so you are responsible for legal compliance under PIPL.
Information on the SCC process can be found here. The SCC document can be downloaded here.
Participant Experience
The Indeemo App is no longer supported in China. Participants use the website version of the participant App to complete their tasks. To learn more about setting up and running you research project in China, follow the steps here.
